The Parables: Stories Jesus Told
September 13th-November 15th, Sundays at 11AM
In Matthew’s Gospel, the disciples ask Jesus, “Why do you speak to the people in parables?” In Luke, they hear one and have to ask him what it meant. In Mark, they approached him and asked about the parables…again. Ever felt that way when reading one? So have we! They were short stories meant to teach, though sometimes it seems even the disciples suspected future generations would be scratching their heads. Join us each Sunday morning at 11AM in person or online this Fall as we we dig into the parables, both the puzzling and the beloved ones, to see what Jesus really wanted to teach us.
WHC’s Blessing of the Animals
Sunday, October 11th, 11AM – POSTPONED!
UPDATE – Doggone it! Our fourth annual Blessing of the Animals has been postponed as the forecast isn’t looking friendly for us or our animal companions!
A new date has not yet been set. Keep an eye on our website and social media for updates. We look forward to celebrating God’s creatures with you when the weather cooperates!
Greater Lexington CROP Hunger Walk @ Second Presbyterian Church
Sunday, October 11th, 3-5PM
UPDATE – We may have postponed Blessing of the Animals, but hunger doesn’t take a rain check! The CROP Hunger Walk will proceed as planned, with two shorter route options: Around the Block or Around the Park. Join our WHC walkers at Second Presbyterian Church, 460 East Main Street, Lexington, for registration at 3PM. We’ll start walking at 3:20PM!

2026 Walk to End Alzheimer’s @ Lexington Sporting Club Stadium
Sunday, October 18th, 1:30PM
Walnut Hill church family and friends know all too well the impacts of this dreadful disease. Consider marking your calendar to walk with us! All funds raised through the walk further the care, support and research efforts of the Alzheimer’s Association. This year, we’ll be walking at the Lexington Sporting Club Stadium. The event opens at 1:30PM with a ceremony at 2:30PM and the walk beginning at 3:00PM. Register here and reach out to the office with any questions!
Bible 101: No Experience Necessary

Curious about the Bible and where it came from? Been a while since you sat in a study group, or never sat in one at all?
A few folks asked for something like this, so we’re getting it rolling. It’s a casual Bible study where no question is too basic. Bring a Bible if you have one. If you don’t, we have extras.
And no worries if you can’t make every session. Pop in when you can, for as long as you can! Our October 19th meeting will again be at the home of Rev. Shawn and AJ Barkley😉
Ladies’ Lunch at The Headley-Whitney Museum

Join us for a special edition of our WHC Ladies’ Lunch as we eat box lunches together and take a private tour of the Headley-Whitney Museum’s latest exhibition, Storied Quilts, on Tuesday, October 20 at 11:30am.

After-School Pizza Party at Tates Creek Community Center
Wednesday, October 21st at 3:30PM
Please join us at Tates Creek Community Center (3460 Campus Way, Lexington, KY 40517) for our After-School Pizza Party! This initiative supports one of our 2026 goals to deepen engagement with local mission partners. At these events, WHC volunteers will come together to serve pizza and snacks to area children and spend time with students to encourage them through positive, caring engagement We will participate in this outreach every month, creating consistent opportunities to connect and invest in these young lives. We typically need 3-4 volunteers for each event; if you would like to serve, please contact the office or sign up on our Google Form!

Sunday, October 25th, After Worship
You don’t want to miss this fan favorite for all ages! Hospitality to the hilt, Derek and team share their hearts and home so we can enjoy autumn in Kentucky at its peak. This casual gathering is a chance for Walnut Hill members and friends to feast and fellowship, hike, carve pumpkins and enjoy the majestic colors of fall together. Festivities start directly after worship services, so wear your hiking gear and meet us there!

Sips and Saints: The Ruthless Elimination of Hurry

Get ready for some great Fall reading–we’re thinking a mug of tea, cozy sweater, fireplace, and blanket–as we explore John Mark Comer’s beloved national New York Times bestseller, The Ruthless Elimination of Hurry: How to Stay Emotionally Healthy and Spiritually Alive in the Chaos of the Modern World. Hailed as a “one of those rare books that every single waking person needs to immediately go read” by New York Times best selling authors, Alyssa and Jefferson Bethke, this short read asks whether a spiritual life can be faithfully formed in a culture of hurry and over-commitment. Join us this November to discuss at the home of AJ Barkley (address will be included in our weekly newsletter!). Bring a beverage or something to share if you’d like, and come ready for good conversation.
Annual Congregational Meeting
Sunday, November 8th, After Worship
Our annual congregational meeting will take place on Sunday, November 8th. The Vestry will share updates from the Clerk and Treasurer, present the 2027 budget, and introduce our new Vestry members. It’s important that we have enough members present to reach a quorum, so we hope you’ll make plans to join us and be part of this important conversation about our church’s year ahead!
Following the Congregational Meeting, the WHC Cemetery Association will also present its secretary/treasurer’s report, a brief overview, and an update by the president of the cemeteries general activities over 2026.

Nathaniel Mission Thanksgiving Day Dinner
Thursday, November 19th, Time TBA
The Nathaniel Mission’s Thanksgiving Dinner on November 19th will welcome neighbors the Mission serves throughout the year and Walnut Hill is bringing the stuffing! Our goal is $200 for two trays of stuffing from Critchfield Meats (a WHC favorite). You can give through our online giving portal by selecting “Nathaniel Mission Thanksgiving Stuffing,” or write “Thanksgiving Stuffing” in the memo line of your Sunday offering.
Volunteers are also needed to help set up, serve meals, and help with cleanup. Please contact Janella Spencer with questions or to volunteer.
